Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate the serene atmosphere and breathtaking mountain views surrounding this historic chapel. While parking is limited and information can be scarce, the peaceful setting and rustic architecture make it a worthwhile detour after visiting Auvinyà village.

"This small church, which looks more like a chapel, was built in the 17th century and restored in 1964. It is located on the heights just a few kilometers from the ancient village of Auvinyà. There is not really any parking on site, but the road is not very busy, so we still have time to walk around it and admire both the church and the surrounding mountains. Make the small detour once you have visited Auvinyà."

"There is documentary evidence of a 12th-century Romanesque chapel at the site of the village. The entrance wall and the bell tower are probably original. The church has been dated to the 13th century by the polychrome wooden altar frontal, which has been kept in the National Art Museum of Catalonia since 1922. This frontal depicts the Maiestas Domini surrounded by four pairs of apapostoles.
The floor plan has a single rectangular nave with a trapezoidal apse, which replaced the original semicircular apse during the renovations carried out at the beginning of the 20th century. Above the west wall is a single-arched bell tower with a gable roof, covered with two slopes.
The walls are made of irregular stones with lime mortar as the bonding material. The roof has two slopes, with a wooden framework and slate slabs on top."

"One of the first Romanesque hermitages that we find in Sant Julià de Loria, and the first on our route to the religious buildings of this small country.

Although it is outside the tourism websites and it is difficult to find information, we wanted to get closer to see what it is like and appreciate the Romanesque style of its construction.

Let's go for a walk, will you join us?"
