Scenes of Punta Walichu Close to the city of El Calafate is place where the first settlers are recorded by paintings they drew on the walls of the caves. They made this paint with a combination of blood and flowers from the area. A cool place to have seen where not many people go! Reviews Summary

Visitors find Punta Walichu Caves to be an interesting historical site with beautiful lake views, enhanced by an atmospheric audio tour. While some consider it a bit overpriced for the duration, the friendly staff and unique experience make it a worthwhile stop for those with extra time in El Calafate.

"Interesting place with lovely views across the lake and a nice cafe. The tour took us about 45mins. Not much is known about the people who made the paintings but the musical filler in the audio is quite atmospheric."

"We had a little extra time in El Calafate and wanted to find something cool to do. We decided to visit Punta Walichu but there wasn’t much information online about it. There are many tours that take you there but we felt like it was over priced so we decided to make the drive ourselves since we had a car. There’s a long dirt road that leads you to small parking lot and there’s a hut with a restroom and coffee shop. You pay 22,000 ARS per person and get an audio tour. The tour was fun and very interesting but we did feel like it was a little overpriced."

Elisheva B.A.

"Great view, interesting place with evidence of past history, no much information about anything on the guide tour, some tunes were cool, a bit overpriced but the staff was super nice and friendly!"

Punta Walichu Caves offer a rare window into the lives of Patagonia's earliest human inhabitants. The rock paintings found here are estimated to be thousands of years old and provide invaluable insights into their culture, beliefs, and daily lives. The exact meaning and purpose of these paintings are still debated by archaeologists, but they are a testament to the rich history of human presence in this remote region. InstagramReddit

While the exact identities of the people who created these paintings remain a mystery, they are believed to be part of the nomadic groups that roamed Patagonia.
