The Legend of the Piedra Movediza
However, this natural marvel met an untimely end. On February 29, 1912, the original Piedra Movediza lost its balance and tumbled down the hill, breaking into pieces at the base. This event marked the end of an era but also cemented the stone's legendary status in Tandil's history and folklore.
Today, a replica of the Piedra Movediza stands in its place within the Parque Lítico La Movediza, inaugurated in 2007. While it's a testament to the original's significance, it serves as a reminder of the natural forces that shaped Tandil's iconic landmark. The park itself offers a space to reflect on this history and enjoy the surrounding landscape.
Exploring the Parque Lítico La Movediza
The ascent, while requiring some effort, is rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Tandil. From the top, you can see the city spread out below, surrounded by the rolling hills of the sierras. This vantage point makes it an ideal spot for photography and simply taking in the expansive scenery.
Beyond the main attraction, the park is a place for gentle outdoor activity. Some visitors have noted that the pathways can be a bit challenging for pets due to the stairs, but the overall experience is one of enjoying nature and a significant piece of Tandil's heritage. The park also serves as a location for community events and artistic expressions, such as the 'Piedra Movediza' ice cream.
