Timing is Everything

Beat the crowds by visiting on weekdays, especially mornings. Weekends and evenings are popular for dining and live music, but expect more people. Check market hours as they vary.

Budgeting for Bites

While the Central Market offers fresh produce, prices can be higher than supermarkets due to quality and location. Compare vendors and consider it a gourmet experience rather than a budget grocery run.

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Adelaide Central Market for its vibrant atmosphere, diverse culinary offerings, and high-quality fresh produce. Many enjoy the global food court and the opportunity to discover unique artisanal products. Some recent visitors noted that ongoing renovations have impacted the ambiance, making it feel darker, and that prices at eateries can be on the higher side.

"This was my second visit to these markets and, perhaps due to the ongoing renovations, seemed a bit less pleasant. Firstly, it didn't feel as large and secondly, I found it quite dark inside.
Nonetheless, I did enjoy wandering all the aisles (some are a bit on the narrow side) and perusing the different stalls. The majority are definitely food and veggies, followed by fish and meat. There are plenty of eateries as well.

If coming in by public transport, the free tram stops at Victoria Square - a 5 minute walk from the market. There is parking and the first hour is free. On Saturdays, the first three hours are free during market opening hours. There are electric vehicle charging stations in the carpark."

"We came to this large market on a weekday morning. There is lots of variety for fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, cooked food and coffee. Most of the shops were open and we had a nice time browsing. Prices here are reasonable. This is a must visit place in Adelaide."

S L Chong

"Artisan appeal and presentation - 5/5
Overall vibe was cosy and nostalgic walking around a wide selections of food and trades.

Pricing - 2/5
Unfortunately, we felt many items are overpriced, which is a detriment to the notion of going to a market to find cheap local produce.
If you’re not afraid to splash money, you’ll find this place amazingly diverse, but if you’re after a deal, you’ll likely wont find it here, and instead go to local famers markets.

Whilst we enjoyed exploring the market, we felt reluctant spending money like $10 for a slice a pizza."
