What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary for its beautiful, easy boardwalk walk through diverse ecosystems, offering excellent opportunities for wildlife spotting. However, many warn of intense mosquito activity, which can detract from the experience if not adequately prepared. The visitor centre's limited hours are also a minor point of consideration.
"Beautiful walk. Nice and easy. I went on a cool June afternoon, so there were not many bugs. It was Sunday and there were a few other people around, but I spent the bulk of the walk alone. The visitor centre was closed.
The toilets are long drop and a bit smelly, but were clean. There were a few insects in the cubicle, so if you don't like crawlies, maybe do a check before starting your business.
Is okay for a pram. No scooters, bikes or animals allowed."

"They were not kidding about the mosquitoes. It was low mosquitoes season but we felt like we had to pay in blood to visit this nice walk. Beautiful broad walk, heaps of birdsongs to listen to. We even saw a snake! But next time, we will be wearing multiple layers of clothing, the mosquitoes pierced through hats and cotton long sleeved shirts."

"It's a short walk along the boardwalk to the river through tropical forest and mangrove. Information boards line the way and birdsong provides the soundtrack. It's beautiful.
Mosquitoes however can be a huge problem. Fortunately in September we had few problems as we covered ourselves in insect repellent before setting off but in April after 50 metres we were driven back.
The mangrove area is great for nature watching. Our 6 year old granddaughter was fascinated by the tiny fiddler crabs, baby fish and mudskippers, as were we.
Allow at least an hour for a visit."
