What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors enjoy the unique experience of driving on Stockton Beach and exploring the vast sand dunes, finding it a fun adventure. However, many are disappointed by the lack of facilities, the entry fee, and restrictions on dune access since it became a National Park. Some also note the windy conditions and lack of shade.
"No facilities. Need to pay a fee to enter which seems a bit over the top. Camping is available but you would have to be completely self sufficient. I've never seen a motor mistake camping area with no cover. Just on a sand dune. Driving in the dunes and beach is a bit of fun and with doing once. The beach driving is ok but heavy going. Easier at the North end"
Bryan McGlade
"This park used to be a beautiful public resource.
It's still a great beach, but for anyone interested in camping, it's all restricted to a couple of small camp spots all on top of each other now.
The dunes are amazing but you can't access them anymore.
The corrupt local council has turned the northern end into a sand mine for personal profit.
Access is pretty easy these days."
Pedro Cardoso
"Stockton beach is a great place to take your 4WD and enjoy the beach. Make sure you buy an entry ticket and respect the park by taking all rubbish and following all the rules"

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Pack plenty of food, water, and entertainment for the kids, as there are no shops or amenities on-site. Ensure children are supervised at all times, especially near the water where waves can be large. The windy conditions might also require extra layers for little ones. While the dunes offer a playground, be mindful of the terrain and potential hazards.
💰 Budget Travelers
Camping is the most budget-friendly accommodation option, but requires bringing all your gear. If you're not camping, a day trip with a packed picnic lunch will keep costs down. The experience itself – driving on the beach and exploring the dunes – is the main draw and is free once you've paid the entry fee.

Exploring the Dunes: Driving and Access
Since the park's management transitioned to National Parks, there have been some changes to access. While the dunes are still a major draw, some areas may have restrictions. It's important to be aware of these limitations and stick to designated exploration zones. The park aims to balance visitor enjoyment with conservation efforts, so understanding and adhering to the guidelines is key to a positive experience.
For those planning a visit, ensuring your vehicle is well-equipped for sand driving is paramount. Lowering tire pressure can significantly improve traction. Always check local conditions and any alerts issued by National Parks before you set off. The reward for careful preparation is access to one of the most unique and expansive coastal dune systems in Australia.
Camping at the Dunes: A Self-Sufficient Adventure
Don't expect amenities like toilets, showers, or even much in the way of shelter. The appeal lies in the raw, natural setting, where you can enjoy a fireplace and stargazing under clear skies. However, this lack of facilities also means a strong emphasis on Leave No Trace principles. You are responsible for bringing everything you need and taking all your waste back with you.
If you're looking for a basic, back-to-nature camping trip and have a suitable 4WD to access the site, the Worimi Sand Dunes can offer a memorable escape. Just be sure to manage your expectations regarding comfort and facilities, and prioritize thorough preparation for your stay.
