Bird life is varied and the wetland is often full of Black Swans, different ducks and other wetland birds. Small birds are plentiful along the tracks and there are plenty of parrots too.

"I’ve been to Braeside Park a few times now, but my most recent visit was in April 2024 for a game of Survivor with some friends. We met at the Kookaburra Carpark, just a minute’s walk from a large gazebo where we set up for the day. It’s a super convenient shelter with multiple tables and chairs, plus a barbecue. It easily held all the cast and crew we had along, and it would be big enough for a decent sized gathering, with plenty of open space around it and walking paths nearby.
Close by, there’s a toilet block that was clean and well looked after, with several toilets available. The area also has plenty of picnic tables and seating scattered around, not just under the gazebo, which made it feel really accessible. The park itself is such a lovely space and worked perfectly for our Survivor game. We held challenges in the open grassy area and set up tribe zones amongst the trees.
The park is full of wildlife, and there are so many different tracks to explore. My partner used to wander them a lot when they lived nearby and always enjoyed discovering new spots. Just keep an eye out for gates that section off areas the rangers are further developing, those parts are off-limits to the public. I really appreciate the effort the council puts into maintaining the park. They’ve created beehives to support the local flora and fauna, planted new trees, and work hard to keep the land healthy. That said, the policies around the space and some of the events held there can be a bit strange at times.
There are also a few playgrounds dotted throughout the park, which are especially popular on weekends, though we weren’t near one during our game. Public transport to Braeside Park isn’t super convenient, but you can take a bus that stops right outside if you train to a nearby station. If you’re driving, it’s very straightforward, you can drive into the park and find plenty of parking at one of the many carparks along the loop.
Overall, Braeside Park is a beautiful place to explore. It’s not too far from the city yet feels like a peaceful, well preserved reserve. I loved playing Survivor here and getting out into nature. It’s such a great spot, and I hope more people take the time to wander through its beautiful scenery."
