What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Newcastle Entertainment Centre and Showground is a versatile venue praised for hosting a wide range of events, from large expos to exciting live performances. While the showground offers ample space for exhibitions, the entertainment centre has received mixed reviews regarding seating comfort and acoustics. Visitors often highlight the convenience of its location near public transport but caution about the expense of food and drinks within the venue.
"Amazing venue with great entertainment if you get the chance to see a show there go you will not be sorry
But please keep in mind that food and drink there are quite expensive. A bottle of water will set you back. $6.15 and it's only the cheap ones you can get from The shops"
Terence Sadler
"This venue is great. The sound the stage all are great.
Parking is very easy to find close by, or you can catch a train as Broadmeadow is only 200m away.
Plenty of food and drink stalls to choose from."
Grant Lee
"The shows was great but the seating needs to be upgraded, tiny plastic seats all joined so close are ridiculous when are population consists of adults of average to above average sizes. Sitting with children when I used to go here years ago but and over 18s show with multiple above average size people all squeezed like sardines around us was beyond uncomfortable and a few people ended up leaving because they couldn't cope any longer. Also only 1 set of ladies toilets in the stadium left for a very long wait. I won't go back for adult only shows, better venues elsewhere"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
When visiting expos like the Hunter Disability Expo, families can find valuable resources and information. These events are often free to attend with registration, making them budget-friendly. The showground offers open spaces, which can be beneficial for children who need room to move, though supervision is always key.
🚗 Caravan & Camping Enthusiasts
These expos are typically held over a weekend, offering ample time to explore the exhibits. The showground provides plenty of open space for these large-scale displays. It's a fantastic opportunity to get up close with different models, speak with manufacturers, and plan your next adventure.

Navigating the Newcastle Entertainment Centre & Showground
The entertainment centre, on the other hand, is geared towards concerts, sporting events like boxing matches, and other seated performances. While it serves its purpose for hosting these events, some visitor feedback points to potential drawbacks. Reviews mention that the venue can feel like an 'echoey barn' with acoustics that are not always ideal, and the seating has been described as cramped and uncomfortable for some.
Despite these criticisms, the venue remains a key location for entertainment and exhibitions in the region. Its proximity to Broadmeadow train station makes it relatively accessible, and it plays a significant role in bringing diverse events to Newcastle.
Event Experiences: Expos vs. Entertainment
Conversely, events within the Newcastle Entertainment Centre are typically focused on a single performance or competition. For a boxing match featuring athletes like Tim Tszyu, the focus is on the spectacle of the sport. However, the indoor venue's design has drawn criticism regarding seating comfort and acoustics, with some attendees finding it difficult to enjoy longer shows due to the close proximity of seats and less-than-ideal sound quality.
When planning your visit, consider the type of event. For expos, expect a more casual, exploratory experience with plenty of walking. For entertainment centre events, be prepared for a seated experience and check reviews for insights into seating and sound if these are important to you.
