The newly opened hike in the Gardens of Stone ⛰️. The Broad Swamp to Birds Rock track is 17.5 km through swamps, creeks, forest and classic pagoda formations. I absolutely loved this track, such a beautiful area to explore. It’s usually done as a one way hike with a 4WD car shuffle, but I was lucky to bump into a local who offered me a lift back from Birds Rock carpark, so I didn’t have to hike th...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the park's unique geological formations, particularly the pagoda structures and the magical Glow Worm Tunnels. The rugged terrain and scenic lookouts are also highlights. However, some find signage sparse and access challenging, with a need for 4WD vehicles for deeper exploration. TikTokReddit+1

"We really had to look hard finding any National Parks type directory signs while driving through on southside, to and from Glen Davis. Both vehicles went on look-see scouting out tracks, this mixed bag of results confirmed we needed a lot more time to explore the obviously very interesting geography here. Airily pass has a pretty camp ground, no toilets or hot showers like Glen Davis. Over 4x4 at Airily pass unfortunately had a gated top track and the lower ravine track was great, very steep, tight n very pretty but way too short to the private gated access (picture) where we thought would follow into the lower section. However, being able there to turn round there, we decided to at a later date, to make more time to find camps, walk to lookouts, follow gullies and fully rationed up for self sufficient exploration of open gated tracks n trails. The local caretaking oversight seems to have locked it up shop to most visitors atm."

Gardens of Stone National Park is famous for its pagoda formations, which are striking sandstone pillars and rock formations sculpted over millennia by erosion. These natural wonders create a surreal and otherworldly landscape, making the park a unique destination for hikers and nature lovers. Many of these formations are found in areas accessible via challenging tracks, rewarding those who venture off the beaten path. TikTokReddit

Exploring these areas often involves navigating through rugged terrain, including swamps and creeks, as seen on tracks like the Broad Swamp to Birds Rock. The sheer scale and intricate details of the pagodas offer endless opportunities for exploration and photography. It's important to tread lightly and respect the natural environment when visiting these delicate geological features. TikTok

Some visitors have noted that certain tracks can be gated or have limited access, suggesting that planning and checking current conditions are crucial for a successful exploration of these unique geological sites. Reddit

The Magical Glow Worm Tunnels

A highlight for many visitors is the Glow Worm Tunnels, a truly enchanting experience. These old railway tunnels, now home to thousands of glow worms, create a magical, starry effect in the darkness. To witness this phenomenon, visitors typically embark on a bushwalk to reach the tunnels. TikTok

It's recommended to visit the tunnels at night for the best viewing experience. While the glow worms themselves are the main attraction, the journey to the tunnels often involves traversing natural bushland, adding to the adventure. Visitors are advised to bring a torch for the walk back, as the tunnels are completely dark without artificial light. TikTok

Access to the tunnels can sometimes be part of a longer exploration, and while the experience is magical, it requires a degree of preparedness for walking in natural environments. TikTok

These campgrounds provide a chance to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area, often situated near significant geological features like the second-largest canyon outside the Grand Canyon.
