"(3.5 stars)
Salmon Haul is the Gordons Bay of the south. You’d never know it was here, unless you looked it up on maps, as the entrance is a nondescript path leading down between the fancy houses of this quiet suburb.
We were told to go around either side of high tide, to make entering from the rocky shoreline easier, and we’re glad we did. It doesn’t look like much from the shore, but beneath the surface there are plenty of different species of fish and even some super-cute and curious squid! It was a bit windy and choppy on the day we visited, which hampered the visibility, but we think that a calm day could be well worth returning for.
It was hard to find out more about the origins of the name, beyond the fact that it had been referred to that way for over 100 years for the obvious reason. It was highly-utilised Gweagal site before European settlement. The rock shelters around there would have offered protection and privacy while providing sweeping views of the waterways and surrounding land."
