Cosy up and duck in for something sweet—it’s Hot Choccy season! 🍫 Hot chocolate just got the Kangaroo Island treatment with a drizzle of our regional Duck Lagoon Honey. Its nutty, caramel notes and smooth cacao finish make it the perfect addition to this winter warmer. 🦆 Blended with creamy milk, a touch of sea salt and pure cocoa, it’s sweet without being sugary, rich without being overpowe...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Duck Lagoon as a prime spot for wildlife encounters, particularly koalas and diverse bird species. The peaceful atmosphere and picnic facilities are highly praised, making it ideal for nature lovers. Some caution is advised regarding bumpy access roads and magpie swooping during spring.

"Great place for wildlife. Birds and Koalas are a plenty.

The roaming can be a tad bumpy and wet if recent rains but otherwise all good. There are some great bird hides too to view and get close to the wildlife.

Take a picnic as good facilities there too."

Cam “The Hairy Tog” Blake

"Great place for ornithologists to study every aspect of birds, including bird songs, flight patterns, physical appearance, and migration patterns. Birds are genetically related to dinosaurs.

You might be lucky enough to see kioloas! They are here amongst the eucalyptus trees.

Lots of different parrots here. Including white sulphur-crested cockatoo! They are all predominantly attracted to the water hole / lagoon. Even saw a bird of raptor / large nest and kangaroo droppings.

Another famous bird that I could hear but didn't see was the large kingfisher, native to Australia, though they are terrestrial predators rather than predominantly water-based fish-eaters. The well-known Laughing Kookaburra is the largest kingfisher in the world and is known for its characteristic call. While they have "kingfisher" in their name and diet, they primarily hunt terrestrial animals like snakes and lizards, and other birds, though they may sometimes eat small fish or other creatures.

Termite mounds were here.

This secluded campground is close to Kingscote, wineries, and Cygnet River attractions. A favourite for birdwatchers and koala spotters, it's perfect for peaceful picnics.

Facilities: Toilets, picnic shelters, and only 2 sites available, suitable for caravans and RVs"

"Koalas! 🐨
Also a lovely lagoon with beautiful birds and swans. Very peaceful...Unless it's magpie swooping season. If it is, do what I did, and twirl your jacket around your head like a helicopter when they're nearby. Or use an umbrella."
