We got in later in the day and were so stoked to see a bunch of fires going and hopped straight to our fairly woeful stick teepee creation. But then the next day saw the signs at the toilet clearly saying no fires 😅 🤷‍♀️ Oops...

Reviews Summary

Ellendale Pool is widely praised as a beautiful and tranquil free camping spot, offering a stunning natural oasis. Visitors love the scenic gorge, the opportunity for water activities like kayaking, and the abundant birdlife. However, the limited number of prime camping spots means it can get crowded, and some caution that the water may not be suitable for swimming.

"Fills up quickly but absolutely beautiful. Will be going again, well worth the drive. Great for paddle boarding and there's rocks and logs to jump off great fun but be careful."

"What an awesome free site! Max 5 nights. Many site options. Flushing toilets & a cold water shower. 1km stretch of water to kayak and impressive cliff face as your back drop. Tranquil and easy to get to."

Gayl Smythe

"Beautiful spot along the river with a nice gorge, you can't swim here but you can use kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.

I only wish there were more camp spots along the river away from the main area which gets overly crowded and busy.

Entry is free. You can camp for a maximum of five nights. Ellendale pool is about 40 minute drive to Geraldton.
