Finch Hatton Gorge 📍 situated about an hour out of Mackay, this was a nice walk. Return trip took us 1.5 hours with the kids. Return trip was 2.4kms. Would have loved to have had a swim however it was pretty chilly 🥶 there were others swimming in there though! . #finchhatton #finchhattongorge #mackay #waterfall #waterfalls #water #swimming #swimminghole #swimmingholes #travel #explore #explorea...

Reviews Summary

Finch Hatton Gorge is lauded as a beautiful natural gem with spectacular waterfalls and inviting swimming holes, offering a refreshing escape into lush rainforest. Visitors praise the scenic drive and the well-maintained walking tracks, though some note that certain sections can be challenging. The opportunity for a refreshing swim is a major highlight, making it a must-visit for nature lovers.

"A beautiful part of Eungella National Park with an excellent short hike featuring some spectacular falls and swimming holes.
Wear good sturdy footwear, take your swimmers, a towel and pack your backpack with lunch and water for a good trip.

The Forested walk is really beautiful. The path is clearly marked and has some small rocky stair sections.

Your first stop will be Araluen Cacades. A stunning rock pools beneath a waterfall. Next stop is Callistemon Crossing. A large rocky crossing that you may not be able to cross when the water level is up. Last stop is Wheel of Fire. This section is currently closed (August 2025)."

"Lovely little hike to two great swimming spots. The Cascades might be my favourite one for swimming but it's also more busy as the walk in shorter and no stairs (contrary to wheel of fire). Definitely check this place out if you got a change. Drive in was super easy in November. Yes some little river crossings but nothing to worry about in any car. Some other time of year it would probably take a high clearance vehicle"

"Amazing place.
Went there in late October during the week.
There are toilets at the start of the walk.
If you intend to go there while it’s raining, don’t. Wait a day or two.

Recommend good walking shoes if you intend to head to the top waterfall, “Wheel of fire”. (For those who take things literally, it’s not a wheel of fire 😂). The walk is challenging for those who feel stairs are their arc nemesis’.

Take some water, especially if it’s a hot day.

Take a towel. You will want to get in.

Wear a hat. Especially if you sizzle in the sun like I do.
Only take those who are willing to walk.

NOT recommended for princesses (all kinds), as the noise spoils it for the trees and they die (this has not been proven by any scientific studies).

Allow around 2-3hrs+ of enjoyment."
