What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
John Brewer Reef is praised for its healthy coral and abundant marine life, making it a top spot for snorkeling and diving. The unique Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA) adds an artistic dimension, though some visitors suggest it's best enjoyed as part of a broader reef experience as the art is still developing. Overall, it's a highly recommended excursion from Townsville.
"This is the reef that contains the Museum of Underground Art (MOUA) that the dive shops from Townsville and Magnetic Island visit on a day trip.
This will be a great diving site... in 10 years or so.
Visited and dived in January 2023 and the planted corals on the structures and sculptures are taking shape, however, you only need maximum 20 minutes to take the sites in and swim around the structures. There is also a school of local barracudas hanging around the main structure. There is just not enough for a full dive.
The good news is that the reef John Brewer Reef is just next to it and you will (most likely) end up doing your second dive on that reef which is great and also worth diving.
It is a great concept, I am not knocking it down but set your expectations appropriately otherwise you may be disappointed. I would love to come back here in few years to see the changes and how this site turns up."

"Gorgeous spot for a snorkel. We were flying that night so not able to dive but it was still A-mazing! Definitely worth the trip from Townsville. We went with Adrenaline Dive"

"This was once the site of a floating hotel, now sadly rusting away in … North Korea, of all places!"
