Aman gak? jujur awal pas jadi lihatnya agak serem takut ketabrak anak-anak trus pecah/jatuh, tapi Alhamdulillah so f...

Reviews Summary

The Golden Stairs offer a challenging but rewarding hike into a beautiful valley, with stunning views and a peaceful forest walk. While the access road can be rough and the climb strenuous, the natural beauty and connection to other trails make it a worthwhile adventure for those prepared. Reddit

"Here, we started our backcountry hike to Mt. Solitary and back to The Three Sisters. The Golden stairs will take you down to the beautiful lush forest at the bottom of the valley (canyon). There's a fair amount of stairs with some uneven slippery (if wet) sections. The Golden stairs is an entry point to multiple other trails (look out for signs)."

Artem Leshchenko

"The golden stairs hike is hard to reach if you don't have access to a car. From Katoomba it's a good hour walk. By car it's possible to reach the trail easily, more so by 4wd. A regular car might make the trip but keep in mind that it's a dirt road with lots of potholes and cracks from waterflows. There's one particular part that's very bumpy and may be trouble for a regular car. At the trail there's space for about 10 cars, but parking along the road is possible as well.
The trail is indicated clearly with a big sign about the enviroment. We went on a rather cool day (20°C) after some rain and had enough with 2 litres of water per person for the approx. 5hr walk. (We went to the castle ruins and back) There's a connection to two other trails well: toward Federal pass (cable car and Scenic World) and toward the campground which is at least 12 km if you're halfway the trail. Both are indicated. The path is mostly clear to follow, with a steep descend down at the start, a nice and shady forest walk and a short climb up towards the castle. (It takes some imagination to see the castle) Once thereand, we found a place to climb up the rockformation and had an amazing view over the surrounding mountains and valleys. Totally worth it!"

"Its a great place to start your walk towards Ruined Castle and Mount Solitary. The roads arent that great for small cars, lots of rolling bumps. The views are as great as Echo point lookout if you walk even more down the track, with barely any people."

Tailored advice for your travel style

👨‍👩‍👧 Families with Kids

The Golden Stairs hike can be a challenging but rewarding adventure for families with older children who are accustomed to hiking. The steep descent and ascent require good stamina and sure-footedness. Reddit Ensure children are wearing appropriate footwear and are supervised closely, especially on the uneven and potentially slippery sections of the stairs. Reddit

Consider the valley forest walk at the bottom as a more manageable and enjoyable section for younger children. The cool, shaded environment is pleasant, and the relatively flat terrain allows for easier exploration. Reddit For families looking for a less strenuous experience, exploring the Narrow Neck plateau might offer stunning views without the demanding descent and ascent of the stairs themselves. Reddit

🚗 Car-Dependent Adventurers

If you have a car, the Golden Stairs become much more accessible. The main challenge then shifts to navigating the rough dirt road leading to the trailhead. Reddit A 4WD vehicle is ideal, but with careful driving, a regular car can manage, though it might be a bumpy ride. Reddit Arrive early to secure one of the limited parking spots, or be prepared to park along the road. Reddit

With a car, you can easily combine the Golden Stairs hike with other nearby attractions in the Blue Mountains, making it a full day of exploration. The ability to reach the trailhead directly saves significant time and energy, allowing you to focus on enjoying the hike and the spectacular views. Reddit

Weekday visits are also highly recommended for a more serene experience. The expansive views from Narrow Neck are particularly rewarding when enjoyed with minimal company. Reddit Remember to be self-sufficient, as facilities are scarce, and to practice leave-no-trace principles to preserve the natural beauty for everyone. Reddit

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The 'Golden' in Golden Stairs

The name 'Golden Stairs' likely refers to the color of the sandstone or the way sunlight filters through the trees, casting a golden hue on the path. While some social media posts showcase spiral or modern 'golden stairs' made of stainless steel and glass, the natural attraction in the Blue Mountains is a steep, often rustic, descent into a verdant valley. InstagramReddit+1 The experience is more about the challenging hike and the natural beauty than the material of the stairs themselves. Reddit

It's important to distinguish between the natural 'Golden Stairs' hike and the aesthetic trend of 'golden stairs' seen in interior design and architecture. The latter often features materials like brass or gold-toned stainless steel, creating a luxurious and modern look. Instagram The Blue Mountains' Golden Stairs offer a rugged, natural adventure, a stark contrast to the polished interiors. Reddit

Despite the name, the stairs themselves can be made of various materials depending on the specific location and maintenance. Some may be stone, others timber, and some modern interpretations might incorporate metal and glass for a sleek finish. Instagram+1 Regardless of their construction, the 'golden' aspect often evokes a sense of wonder and a unique visual appeal, whether natural or man-made. TikTok

Connecting Trails and Extended Hikes

The Golden Stairs are not just an isolated feature; they serve as a crucial junction for several other significant hiking routes in the Blue Mountains National Park. From the bottom of the stairs, hikers can easily access the Federal Pass, which leads towards the popular Scenic World attractions, including the Scenic Railway and Skyway. Reddit This connection offers a way to experience different facets of the Blue Mountains, from the rugged wilderness to more developed tourist areas.

Further exploration from the valley floor can lead you towards Ruined Castle, a unique rock formation that requires some scrambling to reach the summit, offering rewarding panoramic views. Reddit For the more adventurous, the trails extend towards Mount Solitary and the Kanangra-Boyd National Park, offering opportunities for longer, more challenging backcountry hikes. Reddit These extended routes are often less crowded than the main lookouts, providing a more immersive wilderness experience.

When planning an extended hike, it's crucial to be well-prepared. The terrain can be demanding, and conditions can change rapidly. Always carry sufficient water, food, a map, and a first-aid kit. Inform someone of your hiking plans and expected return time. Reddit The Narrow Neck plateau, accessible from this area, also offers spectacular, uninterrupted views into the vastness of the national park. Reddit

The Golden Retriever Connection

Interestingly, the term 'Golden Stairs' has also been adopted in a more lighthearted context on social media, often featuring golden retrievers navigating stairs. Instagram+2 These videos showcase the adorable, and sometimes hesitant, journeys of these beloved pets up or down staircases, often accompanied by playful captions and music. Instagram+2

While these reels are purely for entertainment and have no direct relation to the hiking trail, they highlight the popular association of the word 'golden' with the breed. The contrast between a brave dog facing a flight of stairs and the challenging natural terrain of the Blue Mountains' Golden Stairs is quite amusing. Instagram+2 It's a fun reminder of how a simple phrase can have multiple interpretations across different platforms and contexts. TikTok
