"I would say best beach in Mackay. Beautiful scenery, also fairly wide sand beach obviously dependent on the tide. Patrolled. Waves were massive at the day when I was, it was great to jump over it, just need to be careful as current is strong and pulls you out to the ocean 🌊 has kids playground, public toilets, bbq area."

"Just love this place went up to see if we could see any whales but no luck beautiful views well worth a look"

Whale Watching at Lamberts Beach
For the best chances of spotting whales, aim for the cooler months of the year. Early mornings and late afternoons can be particularly rewarding. Remember that while the whales are the stars, the coastal scenery itself is also a major draw. The expansive ocean views provide a perfect backdrop for observing marine life and enjoying the natural beauty of the Queensland coast.
It's important to maintain a safe and respectful distance from the whales. Enjoy the spectacle from the shore and appreciate these gentle giants in their natural habitat. The thrill of seeing a whale breach or a calf playfully interacting with its mother is an unforgettable part of the Lamberts Beach experience.
Beach Safety and Swimming
Beyond the currents, visitors should also be mindful of other potential hazards common to Queensland beaches, such as marine stingers and, in some areas, crocodiles. While Lamberts Beach is generally considered safe for swimming when patrolled, it's always wise to stay informed about local conditions. The Seabreeze Hotel nearby is a good place to get local insights and enjoy a meal after a swim.
For those who prefer to enjoy the water without swimming, the beach is perfect for leisurely walks, especially during low tide when the sand is wide and firm. The gentle waves can also be fun to jump over, but always exercise caution and be aware of your surroundings.
Photography Opportunities
The beach itself offers a different kind of photographic charm. The wide, clean sandy shores are perfect for capturing seascape photography, beachcombing scenes, or candid shots of people enjoying the coast. During whale season, the chance to photograph these magnificent creatures just offshore adds a unique wildlife element to your portfolio. The cinematic quality of the Australian summer days, as captured on iPhones, highlights the potential for stunning visual storytelling here.
Beyond the natural beauty, the nearby Seabreeze Hotel and the general coastal atmosphere provide opportunities for lifestyle and documentary photography. Whether you're using a professional camera or your smartphone, Lamberts Beach offers endless inspiration for capturing the essence of Queensland's coastal charm.
