What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Five Mile area for its beautiful riverside picnic spot and scenic natural setting, ideal for families and outdoor recreation. However, significant concerns are raised about the maintenance of the mountain bike trails, with overgrown sections and unsafe wooden structures posing risks. While the picnic area is a hit, the MTB trails urgently need attention to restore their appeal and safety.
"The Five Mile Mountain Bike Trail, nestled in Murray Valley Regional Park near Echuca-Moama, offers a scenic backdrop of towering river red gums and a fantastic riverside picnic area that’s perfect for families. The nearby Five Mile picnic spot is a highlight, with ample space for a relaxing day out, complete with fishing or kayaking opportunities along the Murray River. However, the 7km mountain bike trail itself falls short of expectations due to significant maintenance issues. Overgrown tracks make navigation challenging, particularly for less experienced riders, and detract from the trail’s appeal. More concerning are the wooden structures, such as bridges and jumps, which are rotted or missing in places, posing safety risks for cyclists expecting a well-maintained course. The practice track, while functional for beginners, also suffers from neglected wooden ramps that are either rotted or missing timber, limiting its usefulness. While the trail’s natural setting and picnic potential are undeniable draws, the lack of upkeep makes it a risky choice for serious mountain bikers. Casual riders or families focused on picnicking might still enjoy the area, but the trail urgently needs maintenance to restore its safety and appeal. Regular clearing of overgrowth and repairs to wooden features would make this a standout destination once again."

"A great little track. Easy to intermediate. Well drained and good condition. Fast, with very few roots or rocks. The mid loop plus the outer loop track add up to about 5kms. Track markers are a bit vague in places. Some picnic tables at the trailhead.
I rode the 7 kms from Moama along the bitumen and gravel paths, so no need to be on the road.
Park at the trailhead and do a few laps!!"

"Terribly overgrown at the western end of the trail network. Beware of the spear thistles the spines will break off and stick in your legs and arms."
