What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Moreton Bay Marine Park for its stunning natural beauty, diverse marine life, and abundant bird species, particularly the iconic pelicans. The variety of habitats, from coral reefs to wetlands and beaches, offers a rich experience. However, some find the cost of ferry travel to the islands to be quite high, especially for day trips without a vehicle.
"Created in 1993, the Moreton Bay Marine Park stretches over 120km through Moreton Bay, from Caloundra to the southern tip of South Stradbroke Island on the Gold Coast.
Sweeping in land and sea wonders, coral reefs, estuaries, mangroves and wetlands, it
also extends three nautical miles seaward from Moreton Island and North and South Stradbroke islands.
3,400 square kilometers in area, the park's marine and coastal environments also include rocky shores, sea grass meadows and sandy beaches – home to many migratory and resident birds – and of course the famous pelicans with the biggest bird beaks in the world. (They reach 40-50cm in male adult pelicans.)
Moreton Bay, a tidal water zone, is one of the largest Estuary bays in Australia, sits in an ‘overlap zone’ where tropical and temperate species mix."
