"Watching the pink lake was one of the surreal experiences of my trip. Watched it nearly at sunset but was amazing!!! We had to take a 10 kms off road trip from the highway to reach the pink lake, but it worth all that rough road trip!
In fact, there wasn’t a single pink lake, it’s a group of lakes and the road was clearly constructed as a loop to cover all the lakes! It really helped! Clear routes and signs.
I studied somewhere that the best time to visit any pink lake was when the sun is shining, could be a sunny afternoon. Though We were there at sunset, it was pinky!
Most importantly, no one was allowed to step into the lake. It would cause some sort of allergy or harm to the skin perhaps. There was a clear sign to that as well."

Fire pits. BYO wood."

"Very quiet and scenic spot to camp. Half a dozen large - ish and reasonably flat sites for a caravan. Standard drop loo. While the loos were clean, you'll be sharing them with flies/bull ants and tiny snails. Excellent road in. One bar of telstra (external antenna helps a lot here). A couple more sites 1km or so down the road at Lake Beckett. An excellent camp site for cooler months."

Consider camping for a more immersive experience, allowing kids to enjoy the open space and potentially stargaze at night, which can be a magical experience for them.

Understanding the Pink Phenomenon
Visitors often report that the lakes appear most vibrant on cloudy days or during sunny afternoons. While sunset can offer beautiful, shifting colors, the peak intensity might be earlier in the day. It's always a good idea to check recent visitor photos or contact the park rangers for the most up-to-date information on the lake's color.
It's crucial to remember that these are salt lakes, and the water is extremely saline. For your safety and to protect the delicate ecosystem, do not step into the lakes. The high salt content can cause skin irritation, and disturbing the lakebed can harm the microorganisms responsible for the color.
Navigating the Park and Its Tracks
Many visitors enjoy the Pioneer Drive loop, which provides a good overview of the park and its attractions, including several of the Pink Lakes. This loop is a popular choice for day-trippers coming from Mildura. For those planning to camp or explore further, having a reliable vehicle and a good map is essential.
When planning your drive, remember that this is a remote park. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, carry a spare tire, and have basic recovery gear if you plan to venture off the main tracks. Always check park conditions before you go, as heavy rain can make some tracks impassable.
Camping Under the Stars
Facilities at the campsites are generally basic, typically including drop toilets and fire pits. Visitors are reminded to BYO firewood as none is supplied. While the toilets are usually clean, be prepared for the presence of insects like flies and ants. Telstra mobile reception can be spotty, but an external antenna can improve connectivity.
Camping here is an excellent opportunity to experience the park's tranquility and witness the astonishing night skies. Away from light pollution, the stars are incredibly clear, making for a memorable stargazing experience. Remember to pack all your essentials, including food, water, and any other necessities, as services are limited.
