The grave of Martin Cash at Cornelian Bay Cemetery. After a wild life of prison escapes and bushranging, Martin Cash settled down in Glenorchy. Sadly his son died as a teenager, and Martin became an alcoholic. In 1870 his dictated memoirs, ghostwritten by James Lester Burke, were published and became enormously popular. #martincash #bushranger #convict #cornelianbaycemetery #grave #australianhis...

Cornelian Bay cemetery is in my top 10 favourite quiet places in Hobart. My wife and I spent a few sunny hours there recently, ambling around the gently winding paths. Stunning views of kunanyi and the river peak out between the flocks of well-tended trees. It’s a haven for birdlife (including plovers, one or which repeatedly divebombed us!). And - of course - it is very quiet, what with it be...

A quick visit to say hello to the ancestors! Convict Joshua Simmons arrived in Van Diemen’s Land in May 1853, right at the tail end of transportation to Tasmania! He was joined by his wife Catherine and children in 1855, and had another three children in Tasmania, one being Rachel from whom I’m descended.

"Three generations Myself My Daughter and Her Son came to pay our Love and Respects to My Beloved Father today from Queensland. The last time I was here was his funeral 💔. Today was a huge shock after 23 years to find his resting place in awe and pristine. I was so happy to see his photo ... I was speechless. However, I was elated that he had this beautiful reflection of his life.

I will visit again before heading back and bring flowers.

Our love won't fade in our hearts ever with renewed pride in his memorial."
