Insider Tips

from TikTok, Instagram & Reddit

Just casually 4WD’ing onto a nudist beach... as you do 😅
Samurai Beach is tucked into Tomaree National Park near Port Stephens—great for 4WDing, surfing, swimming... and yep, it's a designated clothing-optional spot. Gorgeous stretch of coastline between One Mile and Big Rocky Island. Not your average Sunday drive.

Reviews Summary

Samurai Beach offers a unique 4WD and beachfront camping experience, praised for its stunning natural beauty and the freedom of driving on sand. However, visitors should be aware that it's a clothing-optional beach with significant 4WD activity, which may not suit everyone seeking a quiet or traditional nudist experience. Access without a 4WD can be challenging.

"It’s nudist beach only in name. If you don't have a 4x4 vehicle, you must walk along a soft sand path. While doing so, you’ll have to dodge speeding vehicles and step aside for them to pass. Upon reaching the beach, you'll find many people camping on the sides with their 4x4s, including families with children. For those seeking a true nudist beach experience, I wouldn't recommend it. The sea is very wavy but beautiful. However, the entire area is bustling with fast-moving vehicles, making it unsuitable for a peaceful swim or beach experience."

"Tide can come up pretty quickly, trying to take a nap when it suddenly flooded all our stuffs. Waves are strong enough for some light surfing.
Nearest carpark for non 4WD is Big Rock car park which was a 1.5km hike, lots of spider webs. No open showers. Most came by 4WD."

Ariel Cheong

"Awesome beach. Don't be put off by the the "4x4 only" comments, it is a relatively easy walk up one mile from the parking there, then over the rocks on a hiking path. DON'T try to slog through from the road entrance by foot, it is not fun."
