What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the State Theatre Centre of WA for its stunning modern architecture, particularly the extensive wood panelling, and its comfortable, well-designed seating that offers great views. The venue is noted for its excellent facilities, including a well-stocked bar and convenient nearby parking. While most experiences are positive, some patrons have found certain unscripted or minimalist productions to be less engaging.
"This is a beautiful theatre. Whole inside of theatre looks to be constructed of wood panelling. Awesome. Seats were very comfortable with no restricted view seating. It was my first time there and didn't disappoint."
Janie Stephens
"12 Last Song is an unscripted performance, but I expected some good improvisation. Nothing interesting. Just turn up a question on the screen and one of the audience circle answers. The question is mundane, so the answer is nothing. The curtain shades the stage that I can't see clearly the discussion or its function. I just feel I wasted my time. The concept is fine, but there is no effort to build it up, even the questions. I doubt about the director and curator. The good side is that the architecture and restroom are amazing 👏"

"Beautiful venue! Every seat has a great view and the bar is well stocked. Love coming to shows here!"

The Architecture of the State Theatre Centre of WA
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the architectural design prioritizes functionality. The Heath Ledger Theatre, the main auditorium, is engineered to provide excellent sightlines and acoustics, ensuring an immersive experience for every audience member. The staggered seating arrangement is a key feature that minimizes visibility restrictions, allowing patrons to enjoy the performance without obstruction.
Visitors often comment on the beautiful interior and the overall modern feel of the venue. The thoughtful design extends to practical aspects like well-maintained restrooms and comfortable seating, contributing to a positive visitor experience.
Navigating Seating and Views
However, as with any theatre, some seats might offer a less-than-ideal perspective for specific shows. TikTok creators and Reddit users have noted that seats in the front rows or at the extreme sides of the auditorium can sometimes present minor obstructions. It's always advisable to consult the seating chart for the specific performance you're attending and consider reviews or advice from previous attendees if available.
For those concerned about view quality, opting for seats in the central sections of the stalls or the lower tiers of the balconies generally provides the most consistent and unobstructed views.
Family-Friendly Performances and Tips
When attending with children, consider the length of the performance and the age recommendations. The venue itself is comfortable, but keeping children entertained during intermissions or before the show starts is always a good idea. The bars offer refreshments, and the spacious foyer can be a good place for kids to move around before doors open.
Booking tickets in advance is highly recommended for family shows, as they tend to be popular. Look out for any special family ticket packages or discounts that might be available to make the outing more affordable.
