What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Richmond Vale Railway Museum for its extensive historical displays, friendly and knowledgeable volunteers, and the nostalgic charm of its train rides. It's considered a great family-friendly destination with plenty of space to explore. Some visitors note that certain areas might be restricted and the train rides are short, but overall, it offers a unique glimpse into the region's industrial past.
"Easy parking and very laid back entry to this huge 'Musuem' of the end of the Richmond Vale train tracks...very famous and well used/loved by workers when the mine was open.
When entry is paid for, there are no other costs, except for food/ drinks. This museum is set on acres of property which includes an unused coal mine, so be prepared to do some walking!
First building has collected train memorabilia. The Cafe is a large area serving limited food and drinks with lots of seating inside and outside. There is a small train for the kids and parents to enjoy a ride together.
A 'steam' train takes you for a short ride up to the main road and back, giving you the experience of yesteryear.
Lots of variety of carriages, scoops etc to see and buildings, water dam and museum of the mine. The 2 storey mine office offers interesting mining memorabilia.
Great place for a day, families, bring a picnic!
Staff are friendly, informative and helpful.
Would recommend spending time there, taking the ride, checking it all out and seeing the sizes of the trains."

"I go here often and I just love every second. The volunteers are some of the kindest people to meet, and they have such an extensive knowledge on the site and its interesting history. It is being better developed little by little with new additions such as an interactive signal platform.
The museum holds years of history within it. With 7 rooms of displays ranging from the office of the mine manager, to the medical equipment used by the mine, and much more. Here, its important to take your time and see all the little details, there is so much information and history. If you'd like to know more, ask one of the volunteers, they will gladly tell you all about your wonders of the museum.
All these amazing features and we haven't even gotten to the trains! There is a mini train ride, and the real deal. They run train rides that used to go to Pelaw Main, but unfortunately due to fires, the track is yet to be repaired. The train still runs but on an alternate route, and is no less interesting. You can spot wildlife such as kangaroos if you keep your eyes peeled.
Lastly, the food in the cafeteria is delicious! Loved all my time spent here!"
