What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning coastal views and the unique opportunity to spot sea turtles from the lookout points. The walk is described as beautiful and rewarding, with well-maintained facilities like BBQs. Some note the presence of mosquitoes and the physical challenge of the inclines, but overall, it's highly recommended for a family day out or a scenic hike.
"Beautiful walk! There are two main ways to tackle the loop: if you head up on the left side (clockwise), you’ll face about 260 steps, while starting on the right side (anti-clockwise) involves roughly 135 steps. The total elevation is the same either way, but the experience can feel quite different. Some enjoy the challenge of more steps, while others prefer the steady incline of the sloped path. For a bit of fun, we like to call the upper lookout the “Cooling Station,” thanks to the strong breeze that’s often blowing up there. It’s especially refreshing after taking the anti-clockwise route—you’ve earned the breeze, and from there, it’s all downhill! Enjoy the videos from the top of the hill."

Navigating the Trails
Many visitors find the anti-clockwise route, which leads to the 'Cooling Station' breeze at the top, to be particularly enjoyable. This path allows you to earn the refreshing breeze after your climb, and the descent is then all downhill. The trail itself can be a bit narrow in places, but fellow walkers are generally considerate and step aside to allow others to pass.
Remember to wear appropriate footwear, as the paths can be uneven. The circuit is well-marked, making it easy to follow. The total length of the circuit is approximately 2.3km, making it an accessible walk for most people.
Wildlife Encounters
While turtles are a highlight, keep an eye out for other coastal birds and marine activity. The best times for wildlife viewing are often early morning or late afternoon when the animals are more active and the light is softer. It's a fantastic chance to connect with the local ecosystem and appreciate the biodiversity of the Capricorn Coast.
Remember to observe wildlife from a respectful distance and avoid disturbing their natural habitat. The presence of these animals underscores the importance of preserving these beautiful natural spaces.
Photography Opportunities
Early morning and late afternoon are particularly magical for photography. The 'golden hour' light casts a warm glow over the landscape, enhancing the colors and textures. Capturing the sea turtles from the lookout points also presents a unique photographic challenge and reward.
Consider bringing a wide-angle lens to encompass the expansive scenery and a telephoto lens if you're hoping to zoom in on wildlife. Don't forget your camera or smartphone to capture these unforgettable moments.
