What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Harewood Forest Walk for its beautiful, quiet atmosphere, lovely river sounds, and immersive Karri tree canopy. It's a great spot for a short, accessible walk suitable for families and dogs on leash. However, some have experienced issues with off-leash dogs, and parking is very limited with no on-site facilities.
"Beautiful, quiet, the river and bird song were lovely.
I chose this trail among many nearby beautiful ones specifically because it is an ON LEAD dog trail. Unfortunately my experience was spoilt somewhat by the two other people I ran into on the trail - the only two other people - who BOTH had their dogs off lead, one of whom did not even appear to be carrying a lead and allowed their dog to defecate without cleaning it up. I do not know if clearer signage would help, as some people just don't care - I swear some people act like their dog is allergic to being on lead!
My dog had a beautiful enriching on lead experience (and a cheeky roll in some river sludge ... thanks baby girl) - I wish others would respect the VERY REASONABLE rules set for the safety and pleasure of other users and our native environment. If we want to continue to be allowed to take our dogs on these beautiful trails we must show them the respect they deserve."

"A walk for all ages!
Clocked at just under 3km, you can knock this out in 1-1.5hr.
As you go, you're sheltered beneath the Karri trees, meaning its cooler than a coastal walk. The trail is compacted with a clay-like material, meaning you're less likely to slip.
Worth noting that the trailhead steps right out onto Scotsdale Rd, leaving a meager 3-5 spaces for cars to park, very little space to slot in/out. No toilets or water stations available, all byo!"

"Steep hike for first part. Started by heading right off the bridge and up the hill, then the path forked without signage and ended up at the edge of someone's property... so backtracked (if you come to this fork - go left!). The forest was beautiful. Very muddy in parts so good hiking boots a bonus. Way back down the hill was good with zig-zagging trails and steps. If you want a short version and still enjoy the forest and learn a bit about Denmark's history, then park, go across the bridge and take the left trail along the river up to picnic bench. Popular with dog walkers."

Navigating the Trail
For those seeking a shorter, more relaxed experience, a popular option is to park, cross the bridge, and take the left trail along the river up to a picnic bench. This allows you to enjoy the forest and its historical context without committing to the full loop. The walk is popular with dog walkers, and while the rules state dogs must be on a lead, adherence can vary.
Respecting the Environment and Rules
Beyond dog etiquette, visitors are reminded that there are no facilities like toilets or water stations. This means it's essential to 'byo' (bring your own) everything you might need for your walk. This self-sufficiency helps maintain the pristine condition of the forest and minimizes the impact of visitors. By respecting these guidelines, everyone can contribute to keeping Harewood Forest Walk a beautiful and enjoyable place for years to come.
