What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Perth Zoo is highly praised for its spacious grounds, well-designed animal enclosures, and beautiful gardens, making it a great outing for families. Visitors appreciate the variety of animals and the recent upgrades, including a new playground and café. Some find the free ticket process complicated and the zoo can get very crowded during peak times.
"Would have been 5 stars HOWEVER it was a very rude shock to find that the drinks vending machine that advertised 600ml drinks as being $5 has actually also charged me a $3 service fee PER DRINK. Drinks should be advertised as $8 if it's going to cost me $8.
Outrageous vending machine charge aside, we had an absolutely wonderful day at the perth zoo.
There is way too much glass/perspex. This stuff is so hard to see and photograph through😭😭.
There were a number of animals we were unable to see but that's how zoos are.
It's a beautiful zoo to walk around, the grounds are well established, well maintained and absolutely gorgeous. The paths are pretty easy to follow and animal placement makes sense.
I love the rainforest - where the deep dark wood is at the moment - so so pretty. My son loved the suspension bridge.
He also loved the playground and the gruffalo trail.
The new monkey towers/ropes near the main grass area is fantastic and i bet the monkeys love it too.
The reptile house is incredible.
The nocturnal house however - it was soooo hard to see anything at all. It was just too dark. We've been to a lot, unfortunately perth, yours is a miss - hopefully it's in the pipeline to be updated like your reptile house obviously has been.
Lunch was pricey and tbh not fantastic. I don't know why zoos can't make good food!?!?!
And $7 for a golden gaytime🤯🤯. But at least there hasn't been a $3 service fee chucked on that one - yet.
Every staff member we came in contact with was brilliant.
I'm really happy you still give out paper maps too - so so so much easier than telling us to look on our phone, in the sun, when you can't see the screen. Also, kids like having the map.
We were at the zoo from 10am-4:30pm. Saw everything but the Australian animals (we went to a wildlife park yesterday so figured we could safely skip that bit to save time) and had a thoroughly wonderful time.
That charge has left a sour taste in my mouth though."

"Very good value for an outing in beautiful grounds. If I was going all day with kids would probably take a picnic. We went late afternoon and some animals had been 'put to bed' by 4 pm. Most of the keeper talks are early in the day so keep that in mind. Yes, there's no tiger or elephants, but still plenty to see, we were up close to the lions. Monkeys were a bit hit and miss to spot. We saw most creatures in the nocturnal house. Could easily spend most of a day strolling around, plenty of shade."

"Kids thoroughly enjoyed it! Solid day out, lots to see and you really never know what's around the corner. Clean and tidy, great facilities! Feeding the animals and talks given by the staff made an interesting, educational trip worth while! Thank you Perth Zoo"
