What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo is praised for its convenient Darling Harbour location and close encounters with iconic Australian animals like koalas and kangaroos. Visitors enjoy the interactive experiences and the manageable size of the zoo, making it ideal for families. However, some find the enclosures a bit small and the food options pricey, leading many to recommend bringing their own provisions.
"A perfect place to take kids or overseas visitors but also lovely to visit this slice of Australian wildlife in the centre of the city. It is set out very well and has displays of icon Aussie animals and some surprising inclusions such as bugs and snakes. There are great talks by knowledgeable experts and you can see feeding as well. There is a cafe in the top level near the koalas. A good souvenir shop at the exit. A fun place and educational."

"We visited Sydney Zoo with my old parents and the kids. We had a good day and enjoyed it. We couldn’t find some animals, which was funny — maybe we missed them! The zoo isn’t very big, and there weren’t tons of animals, but what we saw was nice.
The entrance fee was a bit pricey, I think. Overall, we had fun and everyone enjoyed it. The kids loved seeing the animals, and my parents liked the easy access and shade.
Would go again, just maybe not for the animals alone, it’s more for a family day out."

"We visited WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo and enjoyed seeing so many native Australian animals up close, especially the koalas and kangaroos. The exhibits are well presented and the staff were friendly and helpful. At the same time, we couldn’t help but feel sorry for some of the animals given the limited space. Overall, it was still an interesting and worthwhile visit."

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider booking an animal encounter like feeding a wombat or the 'Breakfast with Koalas' for an extra special treat. Remember to pack plenty of snacks and drinks, as this can help keep energy levels up and costs down. The zoo's central location in Darling Harbour also makes it easy to combine with other family-friendly activities in the area.
💰 Budget Travelers
Visiting on a weekday during school term can also mean fewer crowds and potentially more relaxed viewing. While animal encounters are an extra cost, focusing on the general admission and enjoying the regular shows and feeding sessions can still provide a fulfilling experience.

Pay attention to the daily schedule for feeding sessions and keeper talks, as these can provide dynamic moments for photography. While flash photography might be restricted, the natural light and engaging animal behaviors make for rewarding shots.

Navigating Sydney's Wildlife Scene
When comparing it to other Sydney wildlife attractions, Redditors often note that Sydney Zoo (in Bungarribee) offers larger enclosures and a different experience, though some find it less engaging than WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo's central location. Taronga Zoo, while larger and offering stunning harbour views, requires a ferry trip and is a more extensive day out.
For those seeking unique animal interactions, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo offers paid encounters like 'Breakfast with Koalas' or opportunities to hold wombats, which are frequently highlighted on social media. These experiences add a memorable dimension to a visit, though they come at an extra cost.
Maximizing Your Visit: Tips from Travelers
Booking tickets online in advance is another key recommendation. This can help you skip queues and sometimes secure better prices or package deals. For those planning multiple visits, considering an annual pass can be a cost-effective option.
Finally, comfortable footwear is essential, as you'll be on your feet for a good portion of your visit. And don't forget your camera; the zoo offers fantastic opportunities for wildlife photography, especially during the active morning and late afternoon hours.
Animal Encounters: What to Expect
Other popular encounters include the chance to hold a koala or hug a wombat. These experiences are guided by zoo staff to ensure the safety and well-being of both the animals and visitors. While these encounters are an additional cost, many visitors find them to be a highlight of their trip, offering a unique connection with Australian wildlife.
It's advisable to book these encounters in advance, as they are popular and have limited availability. Checking the zoo's website for current offerings and pricing is recommended before your visit.
