What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the spectacular beauty of Undercliffe Falls, particularly its impressive height and the refreshing swimming pool at its base. The natural, undeveloped setting is a major draw for those seeking an authentic wilderness experience. However, the lack of maintained trails and amenities means it's not suitable for everyone, and visitors should be prepared for challenging terrain.
"There’s no obvious trail to the waterfall so hang on the the kids if they bolt though the grass. If you have a 4wd you can drive to the head Or it’s a 5 minute walk.
Driving there , look for the sign"

"An absolutely beautiful series of waterfalls that are well worth a visit. There are no amenities or even a proper track which is a shame. Not suitable for the kids or disabled. The falls themselves are spectacular and I hope that the relevant authorities will do something to improve this natural wonder."

"This was a fantastic camping area. The hosts were very friendly. They even organized their horses for our kids to pat.
We had our own corner of the camp away from others giving us the privacy we enjoy.
A creek, bush walking and complete serenity.
Only thing - don't follow the GPS from Tweed. Goat tracks make for a longer trip. Head out through Warwick."

Navigating the Trails
For those without a 4WD, the walk from the main road can be longer, and it's crucial to be aware of your surroundings. Some travelers have warned against relying solely on GPS, suggesting that 'goat tracks' can lead to longer, more challenging routes. Heading through Warwick is often cited as a more reliable approach. The lack of formal tracks means you'll be navigating natural terrain, so always be mindful of your footing, especially after rain when conditions can become more treacherous.
The Spectacle of the Falls
The surrounding environment adds to the allure, with the falls situated on Bookookoorara Creek within a state forest setting. The natural bushland and eucalyptus trees create a serene backdrop for this hidden gem. While the lack of amenities and formal tracks might be a drawback for some, it also contributes to the falls' untouched, wild beauty. It's a place where you can truly immerse yourself in nature, marveling at the raw power and beauty of the Australian landscape.
Photography Opportunities
Drone photography provides a unique perspective, showcasing the falls' dramatic descent and the vastness of the Bookookoorara Creek valley. However, always ensure you are aware of and comply with local drone regulations. The walking trails leading to the falls also offer opportunities for capturing the natural beauty of the bushland, with opportunities for macro shots of flora or wider scenic views. Visiting after rain enhances the visual drama, but be mindful of lighting conditions; early mornings or late afternoons can offer softer, more flattering light compared to harsh midday sun.
