"This 632 meter causeway links the foreshore of Victor Harbor with beautiful Granite Island. It's accessible any time of the year. However, please note that dogs or bikes are not allowed on the causeway and island.
the new causeway was built in 2021 to replace the old one which had been in use since 1875. Remnants of that construction can be seen at both ends of the causeway. A horse tram used to carry freight moving through the Port of Victor Harbor was in use by 1894.
it's a very pleasant walk to the island and I would have given this review five stars, except for the fact that I don't believe in the use of horses for the purpose of lugging huge amounts of people across the causeway simply for their pleasure. Surely, we can do better. For those people who would like a different experience why not offer a train ride instead? In my view, a double decker carriage is excessive for one animal...."
