Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Wiradjuri Walking Track for its beautiful riverside scenery and the historical significance of the Wiradjuri Reserve. Many appreciate the well-designed underpasses that enhance the walking and cycling experience. However, some feel the track is neglected by the council and could benefit from more development to reach its full potential as a gem.

"HISTORY
The Wiradjuri Reserve has always been a significant location for the Wiradjuri people from the Wagga Wagga area. The reserve served as a traditional Wiradjuri camping πŸ• place with access to the riverside, beach ⛱️ and shallow water πŸ’§.
Wiradjuri Reserve to Gobba beach ⛱️ corridor of the Murrumbidgee river is an Aboriginal camping πŸ• and meeting area used from traditional to modern times. The area is significant as a former gathering, corroboree, fishing 🎣, camping πŸ•, swimming πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ, and river crossing place for local Wiradjuri groups.
The area is rich in resources including plants πŸͺ΄, land, freshwater animals and water πŸ’§. It's also the location of traditional Wiradjuri river crossing place where according to traditional stories, the carer of the Nurrang gungali' or crossing place resides
A shanty town or fringe camp πŸ• was established on the Wiradjuri reserve in the 1930's it was locally known as "Tin Town " it consisted of numerous huts πŸ›– occupied by both Aboriginal and non Aboriginal families dependant on government rations during the Great Depression. Authorities tried cleaning Tin Town camp in 1940's,but people continued to live there until the 1950's. The area has also been known as Tent ⛺️ town, then Tin Town and later it was known as the Bend.
Since the area has long been used as a recreational space for boating 🚒, fishing 🎣, and swimming πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ. The area has had plenty of upgrades to improve the visual appeal, natural environment and recreational facilities have been completed. Those include upgrades to the amenities block, construction of a boat 🚒 ramp and fencing natural vegetation areas, car park areas and improvements to the road system into the Wiradjuri Reserve.
The Wiradjuri Reserve also is part of the Wiradjuri trail πŸ‘£ which covers around 42 km circling much of the city, exploring riverbanks, hilltops and everything in between."

Tanya Vanderkooi

"Lovely spot beside the river. Toilets are clean and well maintained and on a brisk winter afternoon there was no one around."

Rachel Titley

"Awesome place to chill out in the hot summer. Good place to swim, fish or just walk around. The sad thing is, this place is totally neglected by the council. With a little bit effort and planning, this place can be turned in to a gem."
