The Western Treatment Plant (WTP) is a special place. It's where sewage treatment, agriculture, and biodiversity meets resource recovery, education, and ecotourism 🦆 One of its features is its ability to capture biogas, a by-product of the sewage treatment process, and use it to power the plant. Biogas is used for about 80% of the plant's electricity needs and generates an impressive 70,000 mega...

Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Western Treatment Plant an unexpectedly enlightening and beautiful experience, appreciating its role in sustainability and the incredible birdlife. While some areas have noticeable odors, the overall impression is one of impressive engineering and a thriving natural environment. [^review]

"A very enlightening experience. I was only expecting to see brown water in a canal, which I did see, but there are many more components to the plant. Each stage makes the water cleaner than before and is done in a very sustainable and (mostly) odour-free way. The first stage (first image) was the only time we got out of the bus, and while it did smell we didn't stay outside for long. The rest of the tour we remained in the bus, and saw the vast lagoons at work. They were surprisingly beautiful!
