Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Great North Road Convict Trail for its fascinating history and impressive convict-era engineering. The well-maintained path and informative signs make for an engaging walk, suitable for families. However, limited parking and a steep, rough section near the end are common points of caution.

"Loved this walk. Nice wide path, very manageable incline, suitable for children. Plenty of history to read about along the way. You'll get a great sense of how amazing an engineering achievement this was - for something built in the early 1800's. Not much parking at the start of the trail (5 or 6 spots), we had to travel down the road a little further. Great way to spend an hour wearing out the kids if you're in the area."

Tim Smith

"Convict built road which is a 9km loop walk which has lots of amazing engineering feats considering the location and how it was built. Reasonably easy walk considering it is a grade 4 walk. There is a small section which is pretty steep and rough towards the end of the walk when you descend back down to the river. Some great views of the hawkesbury river. Recommend doing this walk if you love the outdoors."

Geoff C

"A good little walk up the mountain with a lot of historical details on the side of the track. Parking near the entrance can be limited. Good views of the valley as you walk. There are other tracks where you can complete a full loop as well. I found the stone masonry work is quite fascinating."
