"I gave the Mount Lofty Circuit / Mount Lofty Loop a go recently. I’m not super fit or a regular bushwalker, just someone who likes getting into nature on weekends, and this hike was just right.
The trail isn’t long, but it’s got a few steep parts that’ll get your legs working. I started from Wittons Reserve and did the loop. It’s mostly well-formed gravel paths, with a few sections that are a bit rocky or loose, so decent shoes are a good idea. Nothing too difficult though and totally manageable at a casual pace.
There’s a really nice mix of bushland and open views along the way, and you walk near the Yarra River at a few points which is really peaceful. At the top, there’s a lookout with great views across the valley and surrounding hills. Definitely feels like a good payoff for the climb.
It took me just over an hour and a half all up, including some stops to enjoy the scenery. There’s not much shade in parts, so on a hot day I’d recommend going early and bringing water and a hat. Alternatively you can jump in the river to cool off at some sections.
It’s a solid local hike and not too far from Melbourne which is perfect if you want a nature fix without driving for hours. Would definitely go again."

"Beautiful and peaceful Wurundjeri land - a perfect spot for wandering souls. The main trail is pretty easy for everyone to walk. You can sit by the riverbank and relax, listening to the river and the birds in the area. We switched to the narrow, muddy track next to the river in the middle and got back to the main trail once I had had enough adventure. We met a warin (Woiwurung word for wombat) on the way. It was a cutie patootie. We kept a respectful distance and took some photos. Please treat the habitat with respect and care ❤️"
