Insider Tips

from TikTok, Instagram & Reddit

Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate the serene forest setting and the historical intrigue of the Burgruine Leonstein ruins. The opportunity to combine the visit with nearby attractions like the Hohe Gloriette and the peaceful nature trails are frequently highlighted as positives. However, the potential for temporary closures due to renovations can be a significant drawback for some.

"Burgruine Leonstein is a medieval castle ruin located in the municipality of Pörtschach am Wörthersee in the Austrian state of Carinthia. It is situated on a rocky promontory overlooking the Wörthersee lake, about 10 kilometers northwest of Klagenfurt.

The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1166. It was built by the Leonstein family, who were ministeriales (unfree knights) of the Counts of Sponheim. The castle changed hands several times over the centuries, and was eventually abandoned in the 17th century.
Unfortunately the castle was closed due the renovation... quite a shame..."

Serđo Orihovac

"Some ruins in the middle of the woods.
Just silence and a lot of nature 🌳
Maybe worth to also take a look at the “Hohe Gloriette” right next to it."
