Reviews Summary
Hohenems is recognized for its historical charm, particularly its Jewish Quarter and Renaissance Palace, offering a pleasant atmosphere for exploration. However, some visitors note a lack of a strong central core and shopping amenities, and a few have encountered issues with parking enforcement and local regulations.
"Hohenems is trying! It doesn't have a real core. Not yet. It can't be compared to Feldkirch or Dornbirn either, as there are no shops.
Unfortunately, they just can't seem to get a handle on the illegal BMW car races through the city! A huge problem.
But great events and opportunities. It's a good fit!"

"I love our city Hohenems, but what would be really cool would be an indoor swimming pool 🤩
Because you have to drive really far to get to a really good indoor swimming pool.
You can forget about the Dornbirn indoor swimming pool, the room temperature is much too cold and so is the water. Dear Mr. Egger, it would be so great if we had an indoor swimming pool in beautiful Hohenems at some point 😊"

"We had interrupted our summer vacation due to the health of my mother-in-law, a Hohenems resident, and were supposed to pick up some medication for her from the pharmacy.
With our 18-month-old daughter and our dog in the car, both of whom were suffering from the heat, we arrived at Schlossplatz, where all the available parking spaces were in the blazing sun.
Since my partner was only going to the pharmacy alone for a short time and I had to stay in the car with my sleeping child anyway, I parked in the only shady spot, under a tree in the square outside the parking areas, so that I basically wouldn't be in anyone's way. I could have left immediately at any time if I had been in someone's way.
As soon as my partner left, a man—I hadn't understood him at first because of his broken German—approached us and spoke to me in a very unpleasant tone.
Only after I explained the above-mentioned situation to him and emphasized that I could and would leave immediately if I disturbed anyone did I realize it must be a parking attendant.
He then directed me away in an even more unpleasant tone, whereupon I parked the vehicle with a small child and dog in the blazing sun.
It certainly doesn't reflect well on a community when a public servant behaves so rudely. Using his position of power disproportionately and on principle to force a car with a small child and dog inside to be unnecessarily parked in the blazing sun in the early afternoon of a midsummer day is simply inhumane!
Approximately two months later, a payment demand for €30 for a traffic violation arrived.
Upon request, including a description of the situation, the city of Hohenems maintained that the fine was correct and that it had been paid.
A year later, I met with the head of the city police, who had found the fines to be correct. Now he's telling me I should have stood there for 10 minutes and it's my own fault that I paid.
I recommend visiting a friendlier town.
Another great idea from the city government is the dog bathing ban on the Old Rhine: Local dog owners are now putting their four-legged friends in their cars to cool off during the hottest months.
That's how environmental protection and energy saving work!"
