Reviews Summary

Visitors praise DomQuartier Salzburg for its stunning Baroque architecture, impressive art collections, and the unique experience of exploring interconnected historical spaces. The views from the organ gallery and the grandeur of the State Rooms are frequently highlighted as memorable aspects. However, some find the inclusion of contemporary art within historical rooms jarring, preferring a more traditional presentation.

"The modern art statues were very interesting. There were some music festivals going on in the summer. There are a lot of shops and artists in the square. I bought two pieces of painting from an artist here. The old town streets are connected to here. There are a lot of small isles going through the courtyard and connecting two streets. It was kind of surprising; I thought it was a deadend then it showed the other end goes to another street. It is fun to walk through the old town."

"Basically a bunch of museums put together, you have the one connected to Salzburg Cathedral, residence gallery, state rooms and the museum of St Peter.

You can also get a better view on the fountain and the center in general while going though the tour.

Beatiful museum but the reason for the 2 stars is that they put contemporary art in the middle of multiple rooms which really harm the atmosphere of the particular rooms. Contemporary art should stay in the contemporary museum in my opinion where it's setting alings with other pieces. This mishmash was really saddening."

"Wonderful place from outside as well as inside. The cathedral is impressive and the museum part is very interesting too. There were several exhibitions available and we can only recommend visiting them."

The Artful Blend: Historical vs. Contemporary

DomQuartier Salzburg is celebrated for its extensive Baroque architecture and historical art collections, spanning centuries of archiepiscopal power and artistic patronage. Visitors can explore the opulent State Rooms of the Residenz, the impressive Residence Gallery with its Old Master paintings, and the sacred art within St. Peter's Museum. These sections offer a deep dive into Salzburg's rich past and the lives of its former rulers. Reddit

However, a point of contention for some visitors is the inclusion of contemporary art installations within these historical spaces. While intended to create a dialogue between past and present, some reviewers feel this juxtaposition can detract from the original atmosphere of the Baroque rooms. The Museum der Moderne, located nearby, is often suggested as a dedicated space for modern art enthusiasts. Reddit

Ultimately, the experience of this blend is subjective. Some appreciate the innovative curation, seeing it as a way to engage with history in a new light, while others prefer a more traditional presentation. It's worth noting this aspect when planning your visit and managing expectations. Reddit

These are seamlessly connected, allowing visitors to move between them without exiting the complex. This interconnectedness is a key feature, offering a comprehensive journey through Salzburg's religious, artistic, and secular history. Reddit

This curated path ensures you don't miss any key areas and provides a logical flow through the historical narrative. Comfortable footwear is essential, as you'll be traversing numerous halls, galleries, and courtyards. Reddit

Pay attention to the signage and consider picking up a map upon entry to fully grasp the layout. The experience is designed to be immersive, allowing you to appreciate the grandeur of the Baroque era and the artistic treasures housed within these historic walls. The unique attic access to the Dome organ and the terrace view are often cited as memorable moments in this journey. Reddit
