What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the St. Margarethen Roman Quarry, particularly for its opera performances, citing unforgettable staging, special effects, and acoustics. The unique ancient quarry setting is consistently praised for its dramatic atmosphere. However, attendees strongly advise preparing for cold temperatures and potential insects, recommending warm clothing and cushions for comfort.
"Incredibly cool place and incredibly cool performances! Last year we watched a fantastic Aida here, this year - also a very impressive Flying Dutchman. Compared to a regular opera - the voices are also gorgeous, but the scenography is truly unforgettable, special effects, decorations, costumes! All this makes the show unforgettable!!!"

"I loved it, the staging, the acoustics are amazing, there are tons of options for food and drinks, and the lines to the toilets never got terrible. BUT: the seats are made of metal and they get very very cold, so DO TAKE A PILLOW OR TWO WITH YOU. Also when they say it gets cold, they mean it. Most people arrive with huge bags of extra clothing (winter jackets and co.) and covers. DO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY.
Yes, during the summer. It's an old mine in the countryside.
Moreover, some insect repellent spray can come in handy, as when it gets dark, the insects literally swarm the place."
