The church was first mentioned in a document in the founding charter of the St. Gallus monastery and dates back to 1136. The impressive building, originally consisting of romantic and late Gothic elements, is particularly beautiful and fits perfectly into the landscape. In the 15th century, the church was damaged and destroyed during a Turkish invasion. The Turkish bell, which has been preserved today, dates from this time.
