What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Theater an der Wien for its adventurous programming, showcasing rare operas with modern, high-quality stagings. The affordability of standing room tickets is a significant draw, though securing a good spot requires early arrival. Some find the modern interpretations less traditional than expected.
"In January, my husband and I had a wonderful tour of the Theater an der Wien hosted by Philipp Wagner-Nguyen. The theater had just reopened a few months before, after being fully renovated. We were very interested in the history of the theater and Mr. Wagner-Nguyen was exceptionally informative! We toured the orchestra level seating area, the stage, the backstage, the basement with the large stage lift machineries, the changing rooms and makeup room. The theater is magnificent! We were so impressed that we bought tickets to watch Johann Strauss II's operetta The Queen's Lace Handkerchief a week later. That provided a satisfying wrap to our trip!"

"so cool! booked the backstage tour because its off-season and its worth it! you can learn the history, the things happening in the back and check the places! nice."

"The place speaks itself and it's enough for me to say I came only to witness where Beethoven stands in the podium and conducted his biggest premiere in 24th of December 1808. The staff was really helpful and very organized. and the only thing that I wished to replace Wagner-Nguyen with someone more professional & considering."
