What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Mardakan Quadrangular Castle a charming and historically significant site, especially appreciating the friendly local caretaker and the affordable entry fee. The panoramic views from the top are a major draw. However, the castle's poor condition, with debris and dangerous open holes, is a significant concern for safety.
"It's a very charming place especially if you come across the elderly man who opens up the gate for you, he's a very sweet man, explaining about the castle in broken English (or Russian if you speak) and doesn't want anything for it, he even plucked some carnations for me.
The castle is supposedly from the 12th century but obviously very much rebuilt. You can climb up to the very top to get some great views of greater Baku on a clear day. Just be careful, the floors are sagged. There's also a small mosque from the 16th century and the complex itself is located in a nice garden."

"The remains of the fortress and its surroundings are in very poor condition, with debris all around. Also there are multiple deep, open holes in the ground posing a danger to anyone not paying enough attention."
