"This square means so much especially to the ancestors. They wouldn't believe that Independence would happen after so many years of hardship as young strong people were condemned, sold and stolen away from homes in Europe, Africa, Asia then forced to work in the baking sun to make sugar and rum with very little hope to escape and whole lives being treated like property."

"Located in historical Bridgetown...shared between the wharf, the Independence Arch and the Swing bridge, the square is a few steps away from the Parliament buildings on the other side.
A nice area to relax with park benches, and shaded trees with a view of boats moored in the Careenage.
I however felt a little sad seeing the state of the area, which has lost it's vibrancy to years past, maybe it's the closure of many businesses and vendors as there's currently a major works project on the way.
Standing tall in the Square is the father of Independence..a very fitting way to honor one of the Island's National Heroes.
I do hope for the best for this area, when all the construction is over and new businesses emerge, as there's a lot of beauty and history surrounding the square."
