What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Gomel Zoo is praised for its commitment to animal welfare, with many visitors highlighting the clean, well-fed, and happy animals. The interactive petting zones are a significant draw, offering hands-on experiences. However, some visitors express disappointment if they expect to pet all animals, as interaction is limited to specific zones and animals. The need for cash payments and occasional staff rudeness are noted drawbacks.
"Super 👍 This is the first zoo in our city I've seen that truly cares about the animals and their comfort during interactions with visitors. The staff not only explain how to hold each animal and what to feed them, but also lets them rest and isn't forced to take photos. Feedings are carefully monitored to ensure the animals don't overeat or become ill. Mothers and babies are kept separately so they aren't disturbed. All the animals are clean, well-fed, and not overworked. This is exactly how a modern zoo should be. 👍"

"My husband, 1.7-month-old, and I visited this place on a weekend. What can I say? The smell was terrible, and that was to be expected, so it didn't stop us. A special plus for the shoe covers they give you at the entrance to the animals. I offer food (cabbage and an apple, for the animals) for 2 rubles.
I was certainly expecting more animals, at least more that you could feed, touch, and go into the enclosures. Unfortunately, we fed a goat, rabbits, and a raccoon. We also visited the rabbits (there are most of them there) and the chinchillas. The other animals there were mandatory feeding and touching.
I was a bit disappointed. I didn't like them because this isn't a PET zoo, but a room with domestic animals.
I would have liked to touch and feed many of the animals, but unfortunately, that's prohibited. You can feed and touch the animals that are allowed outside the establishment."

"We love this zoo; we've been to many similar ones, but this one is our favorite.
We like it best—they let you see the animals, and you can see that everyone is clean, well-fed, and happy.
You can feed many of the animals, and
the portions are generous, by the way, and you can hold or pet almost all of them.
You can even make magnets with your photos as souvenirs.
Thank you for the pleasant, friendly
atmosphere!"
