What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for Marc Chagall Art Centers are mixed, with some visitors praising the unique collections like the 'Biblical Message' and professional staff, while others express disappointment over the lack of original paintings and the prevalence of lithographs or temporary exhibitions. The building's aesthetic is often noted positively.
"Visited on 2nd Nov 2023 for the second time in the last four and a half years and left very disappointed. There are no originals of Chagall's works on either floor. The first floor had about 15 pieces of litography from the Bible series. The second floor had an exposition of nudes by a modern artist. The center's attendant explained that the Chagall's graphic works had been put in storage following their exposition in summer. Ok, a fair point given that the graphic works do need a bit of a rest after exposure to any light. But, come on, they claim having 300 graphic pieces in their reserves. Surely, not all of them were displayed in summer! I know that also because I visited the center in the summer 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed flicking through the less known of Chagall's masterpieces. I brought my mom with me in great anticipation and she was not a happy woman that day:-( There was no any note of reduced exposition of Chagall on either a website or at the center's reception. No verbal warning by the cashier:-("

These graphic works, while not original paintings, offer a significant insight into his artistic vision and techniques.

His art often reflects a sense of displacement and a longing for his roots, while simultaneously embracing the modern art movements of his time.
