📍 Nottebohmzaal, Antwerp The Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library is a true hidden jewel of Antwerp, and one of Flanders' most beautiful libraries. Until 250 years ago, it was actually a chapel which was widely popular with Antwerp's elite, including Flemish Masters like Rubens and Van Dyck. Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the library's stunning beauty and excellent audio tour, calling the Nottebohm Room a breathtaking heritage site. However, some reviews mention issues with organization, crowded conditions despite timed entries, and less-than-professional staff, with a few finding the modern art exhibition disruptive to the atmosphere.

"This small heritage library is currently only open a few months of the year, you must pre book an online ticket via the website (prices are in one of the photos here). It is definitely worth visiting at least once as it is a very beautiful location and the audio tour is excellent!

Positives:
- Excellent audio tour with many language options, very easy to use and extensive!
- Beautiful library with great care taken to preserve the architecture and books alike.

Negatives:
- Only 1 room! This is a fairly short 30 minute heritage site, that worked for us in our city tour but be aware this is what you are paying for.
- The staff were very bossy and unprofessional students with no knowledge or respect for the building. Very poor queue management and were rude to the people in front of us who were unable to use the online ticket portal due to a language barrier. They also turned away people even though the session was not fully booked, as well as asking us to change our wet clothes in front of them in the lobby. We were going to use the cloakroom anyway and refused to change in the public lobby.
- Strange out of place "modern art" exhibition in the middle of the library featuring extremely ugly and out of place modern interpretations of books? This is neither good modern art nor appropriate for such a setting and really ruined the atmosphere."

April De Wilde

"Not worth a visit, unfortunately. Hot and packed despite the effort of booking à time slot (which is apparently to ensure only 50 people inside at one time - they don’t adhere to that). For anyone brought up with old, attractive libraries that are usable, there’s something quite unsettling about this place, a tourist trap with books feeling far away through Perspex glass. After 5mins we quickly worked out that the courtyard outside was a much nicer way to spend time in Antwerp."

George Sampson

"Nice experience, a bit busy with well organized with good audio guide!"
