What to do in Charleroi area?
Dear Belgians! :-) Together with my wife we've received an airplane voucher for our 40th birthday and I think Belgium could be a sweet country to visit in September as we've never been there before. What would you recommend to do/see/go once we arrive to Charleroi? I'd love to…

Hey, I’ve been living in Belgium for some years now, and I want to go and explore Charleroi this weekend. Any recommendations?
I recommend doing some part of the Black Loop. It's a nice hike through the terrils, hills made by coal tunneling. There are nice views. It leads right into the city too, so you can combine it with other stuff. Info is here:…
Cheap way to go Brussels from Charleroi Airport?
Hi everyone, I saw really cheap ticket to Charleroi Airport. But tickets between airport and Brussels seems extremely expensive for me. (Around €15-17) Do you know any cheaper way? Or do you think hitchhiking can work around there? Thanks in advance for any info..!

Reviews Summary
The Charleroi Pre-Metro stations are lauded for their striking brutalist architecture, offering a unique visual experience for photographers and urban explorers. However, some visitors report feeling unsafe due to aggressive individuals, particularly during early mornings, and amenities can be limited.
"The WORSE TRAIN STATION. I had to be there early in the morning, and it was full of beggars and getting harassed verbally by them early in the morning. They have no shame they keep on coming and if we don’t give any money they get violent. It’s like we should go to work everyday, wake up early in the morning everyday just to give them money who does nothing in life.
Why is the commune of Charleroi so negligent about this? We feel so unsafe to walk around freely especially even inside a train station. And no security if ever needed. How crazy is that?!"

"Quite small, but busy airport. Places to charge your equipments are all over the place, so you don't need to worry about empty batteries in your phone or laptop."

"Charleroi-South station, also known as Charleroi-Sud, is a major railway station located in Charleroi, Belgium. It serves as a hub for regional and national train services, connecting Charleroi to other cities in Belgium and beyond. It's an important transportation hub in the region."

🎫 ⚠️ Safety & Comfort
Some visitors have reported feeling unsafe due to the presence of aggressive individuals, particularly early in the morning. It's advisable to be aware of your surroundings and consider visiting during busier daylight hours.
If you feel uncomfortable, move to a more populated area or seek out station staff if available. It's also recommended to travel with a companion if possible.
While some reviews mention charging points being available at the airport, facilities within the Pre-Metro stations themselves can be limited. Charleroi-Sud station may offer more amenities.
Solo travelers should exercise caution, especially during quieter times. Staying aware and sticking to well-lit, populated areas is advised.
Comfortable walking shoes are essential. Consider bringing water and snacks, as amenities within the stations might be scarce.
