"From 1922 onwards, a temporary wooden church,
St. Joseph's Chapel, had already been built on the coast, commissioned by an Englishwoman in memory of her son Ruppert Edward Inglis, who died during a rescue operation for wounded soldiers on September 10, 1916.
The foundation of the Our Lady Parish in 1926 was a result of De Panne's development as a seaside resort. The two other churches, including St. Peter's Church, were too far from the sea.
The church has a crypt, which was dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima in 1947.
