"Though there are some nice library workers in the library, for a long time I felt that this was the most costumer unfriendly place in town.
I have had countless experiences with books that I reserved and just found sitting on the shelf but was not allowed to check out because it was reserved by someone else first (then why is it sitting on the shelf?)
And books that fell apart as soon as we took them home and for which we then had to pay, and books/ dvds that are impossible to find in the catalogus. Try and find a season 7 of a dvd series: the catalogue will serve you up all possible versions of the Seven Sisters series, but your dvd is nowhere to be found.
One of the more frustrating experiences were 1) my 8 year old son bawling his eyes out because the book he had been waiting for for months (and had on reserve) was just sitting on the shelf, but we were not allowed to check it out, the lady at the desk was adamant and not sympathetic to my son’s tears at all.
2) during the COVID period you had to go to the desk to pick up reserved books, and i quickly hopped on over during my lunch break . There were two workers there, one was arranging books and the other one was helping the other costumer in front of me. The person arranging the books, did not come to help me , even though there was some situation with the other costumer that took more then 10 minutes to resolve. When finally the costumer was finished, the worker who had been helping him, didn’t even acknowledge me, but started moving books from a card to a shelf! I had been waiting more than ten minutes already!!
The costumer unfriendliness was sickening!
I finally asked the worker is she could see me, and if so, could she please help me?
I didn’t go back to the library for a year afterwards."
