"This statue is located near the other Pallieter statue, called Pallieter and Marieke and/or Pallieter's Horse. Both are located on Netelaan, opposite the city park. They're beautiful locations, and it's nice that they're so close together.
Pallieter is the main character in the eponymous novel by Felix Timmermans. He's described as a true bon vivant who goes through life with his hands in his pockets and whistling. That's why artist Jan Alfons Keustermans has so beautifully depicted him in this bronze statue.
It was unveiled in 1986 to commemorate the Timmermans Year."
