What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Aquarium-Museum of Liège to be a place of historic charm with interesting museum exhibits and engaging planetarium shows. While the grand building is a highlight, some areas, particularly the aquarium tanks, are noted as needing upgrades and maintenance. The friendly staff and multi-language explanations are appreciated, making it a decent educational stop, though expectations for the aquarium itself should be managed.
"In need of some much needed upgrading, the aquarium is nice and the variation of fish is good. The museum is interesting. Planetarium was good. The building itself is stunning but does need some upgrading. We paid just over 60 euros for 6 of us. I wouldn't pay that again but enjoyed ours 2.5 there."

"Nice little museum with a variety of rooms, including a 45-minute planetarium showcasing and guides. The people working there were very friendly. Everything is explained in multiple languages, too! The aquarium was a bit smaller than expected and a bit unkept (dust, dead fish). The building is also under construction, so some rooms are also empty. Other than that, it was a nice experience for little money (as a student). Also, there are two souvenir coins to collect here; one with sharks, which I got, and one with the building (2 euro each)."

"Visited the Aquarium Musée of the University of Liege. In my humble opinion one can't keep fish in such small and overcrowded basins or tanks. It's disgraceful!"

The Historic Building
Despite the need for upgrades, the building's unique character is a draw in itself. It provides a distinctive backdrop for the marine life and museum artifacts. The contrast between the historic setting and the living exhibits creates a unique atmosphere. It’s a place where you can appreciate both natural wonders and architectural heritage, making it a worthwhile visit for those who value history and aesthetics.
Navigating the Aquarium Experience
However, the aquarium does house some interesting species, including mentions of cute little eels that have charmed visitors. For those who appreciate marine life, it still offers a chance to see a range of aquatic creatures. It's often recommended to focus on the educational aspects and the planetarium shows, which tend to receive more consistent praise. The museum's taxidermied exhibits also provide a different, albeit static, perspective on marine biodiversity.
The Museum and Planetarium
The Planetarium is another significant attraction, offering captivating shows that last around 45 minutes. These presentations are often praised for their quality and are explained in multiple languages, making them accessible to a wider audience. The combination of the museum's artifacts and the planetarium's cosmic explorations provides a well-rounded educational experience that complements the aquarium.
