"In this vast 39 acre German cemetery lie the remains of over 39,000 military personnel from World War 2, some of whom tragically were children. It also includes a smaller number of interments from World War 1. A basalt crucifix with "John" and "Mary" at its base stands on an entrance crypt designed by Robert Tischler which contains the effegy of a fallen soldier. The area is surrounded by a 1100 metres earthen boundary and midst it's seemingly endless rows of crosses, random trees lend to an atmosphere of dignified peace. Touchingly families still tend to individual graves with personal tributes and embellishments to this day."
